The Sixties

The 1960s is a period in American history that tends to be over-romanticized by those who were involved with movements of social change and possibly purge more so by those who wish they had been. Regardless of the unreliability of many modern sources, the decade was an important transition confidential information in our history. The cold war was reaching its zenith with first the Cuban missile crisis and then our efforts to retard the communist spread with the contest (war) in Vietnam. The Cuban missile crisis was handled ably by president Kennedy who beat Richard Nixon in the 1960 election due to his smooth discourse of the first televised presidential debate (and Im sure policy issues et al.) unluckily the poor man was shot in Dallas and then fivesome years after-hoursr his brother Robert was also killed. The lack of Kennedys make it possible for Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon to make a terrible mess come forth of our involvement with Vietnam.
Socially in the United States the country was functional through some civil rights hiccups. The Supreme Court exemplar of Brown vs. The Board of Education had declared segregation to be unconstitutional (but I believe that was in 1958?) and there were superhuman efforts across the country (south) to enforce integration. Most famously in states such as Mississippi and Alabama.

Efforts were rewarded though (in 1964?) with the passage of the well-bred Rights Act. There was increased activity across the country by young folks who were disenchanted with the social and political side the United States was finding itself in. There were protests against the war and civil rights violations with jurisprudence and military cracking down across campuses nationwide. The worst of these had to be at Kent State.
