After the Civil War, freed slaves seemed to obtain follow rights with the passing of the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments. However, after Reconstruction ended in 1876, these rights were not truly implemented until later in the 1950s and 1960s. In the 1896 case of Plessy v. Ferguson, the Supreme Court ruled that racial segregation was legal as long as the cut off facilities are equate. Blacks felt this command was unjust and therefore felt that major unsnarls were necessary. This brought about the start of the civil rights movement in 1954. The first event to happen was the Supreme Court ruling to overturn Plessy v. Ferguson and announce segregation illegal. However blacks were still not treated equal so a real reform movement started. In 1955 Rosa Parks refused to give up her equal rights.
She refused to move to the back of the deal and give up her seat to a white individual. She was arrested. Martin Luther King Jr. cut this arrest as illegal and an injustice, so he create the Montgomery Bus Boycott for peaceful protest and hopefully change the manner in which blacks were treated on the bus.
