There were several factors that led to the advancements with mental testing. One advancement was the opening of Wilhelm Wundts (1832-1920) laboratory in Leipzig in 1879. The founding of the laboratory has proven to be highly important in the history of psychology and psychological testing. special contributions were made prior to the opening of Wundts laboratory, such as Darwins publication on the Origin of Species by path of Natural Selection. This paper will detail why these events were significant, the past roots, and how Wundts laboratory has influenced the development of psychological testing in the 21st century.
Darwins contribution of the Origin of Species by core of Natural Selection was important because it changed the entire paradigm of biodiversity of the planet. However, Darwins publication did not directly affect the area of psychological testing, but did lead to the investigations of Frances Galton in the last part of the nineteenth century on the heredity within pea pods (Cohen & antiophthalmic factor; Swerdlik, 2010).



Galton developed the idea that anthropometric records, such as, height, arm span, weight unit breathing capacity, strength of pull, strength of squeeze, memory of form, discrimination of color, and soundness of hand (Cohen & Swerdlik, 2010, p. 37) and should be composed in an educational atmosphere. Galtons finding gave light to the possibility that human demeanor could be measured both experimentally and quantified numerically.
Germanys self-confidence at this time was undeniable. German institutions were responsible for publishing a majority of scientific discoveries taking place. This dominance was directly related to the opening of Wundts laboratory and the foundation psychological testing began.
